A Croxley man is taking on the challenge of his life this month, aiming to walk more than 150km across the Scottish Highlands to raise money for a Parkinson’s charity.
Chris Cockerell, 49, of Baldwins Lane, will be hiking the West Highland Way from the town of Milngavie, just north of Glasgow, all the way to Fort William, deep in the Highlands.
The route is an arduous trek which is regarded by NatureScot as one of the country’s Great Trails.
This is a personal journey for Chris, who will aim to complete the challenge to raise funds for Cure Parkinson’s.
Only two-and-a-half years ago, his wife Steph was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease.
Speaking to CROXLEYnews, Chris explained: “Though Steph is taking her own steps to prevent the disease from progressing, I wanted to do what I could to help.
“Cure Parkinson’s is working with urgency to find new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s disease.
“Their funding and innovation have redefined the field of Parkinson’s research, enabling the world’s leading researchers to prioritise the next generation of drugs for clinical trial.”
Chris will also be joined one of his two teenage children and their school friends for the journey. He’s been training throughout the summer by walking around Croxley, and said that he is looking forward to the experience.
