A young chess star from Pinner has secured another trophy at a national junior chess tournament.

Nine-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan took part in the Delancey UK Schools’ Chess Challenge, an annual competition that has been running since 1996, last month. It’s open to players of all abilities aged five to 18, with previous players going on to become grandmasters and national champions.

The young chess champ secured her spot in the Terafinals at Blenheim Palace on Saturday, October 12, and Sunday, October 13, after storming the Preliminary, Megafinals, and Gigafinals rounds.

In the final on Sunday, Bodhana, who attends St John Fisher Catholic Primary School in Pinner, secured the top spot in the Girls Under 18s category, despite being eligible for the Under 10s category.

This comes after the young star was selected for England’s women’s team for the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, in September, making her the youngest person to ever be chosen for a full England team in any sport. She won a game in the first round on Wednesday, September 11, with England finishing 27th out of 181 teams.
