Get your rackets at the ready and lace up your football boots, as Powerleague Watford is bringing new sports facilities to the area.
The new 11-a-side artificial grass pitch and four padel courts will be built next to Queens’ School on Aldenham Road and will serve the local community, as well as being used for educational purposes. They are expected to be complete by early next year.
Work on the artificial grass pitch is set to begin on Monday, October 6, with work on the padel courts commencing Monday, November 17.
The expansion is in partnership with Queens’ School and includes a £2million investment to encourage more people in Watford and surrounding areas to take part in community sports – helping them to get active, connect with others, and create lasting memories.
Currently, Powerleague already offer a variety of facilities, including five-a-side and seven-a-side pitches, holiday camps, competitive leagues and many more.
Speaking to WATFORDnews, Powerleague CEO John Gillespie said: “We know how valuable access to sport is for physical and mental wellbeing, and we’re pleased to be working with Queens’ School to deliver a facility that will benefit the town for years to come.”
Asked what the new facilities would mean for Queens’ School, headteacher Jonathan Morrell said: “It will allow us to improve our sports provision, giving students access to top-quality facilities that support both physical health and teamwork.”
