THREE PEAKS: Berkhamsted firefighters attempt Three Peak challenge wearing full kit

A group of firefighters from Berkhamsted Fire Station are taking on an epic Three Peak Challenge in aid of two charities.

Six members of the team will be climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales– Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon – starting on October 22 and attempting to complete the challenge in less than 24 hours.

The team will also be wearing fire kit and breathing apparatus to add an extra dimension to the challenge.

Speaking to BERKHAMSTEDNEWS, firefighter Scott Herdman said the team are both excited and nervous about the challenge.

He said: “I think there’s a bit of apprehension because it is the most difficult challenge we have done.

“There’s a few of us that have done the three peaks normally and that was not an easy feat, but it’s going to be even harder with the breathing kit and apparatus.”

The firefighters will be supporting the Fire Fighters Charity and Hector’s House, a charity worker aiming to prevent suicide and combat mental health stigma.

Scott said: “The challenge is going to require a lot of grit and determination to get through it but it’s for two charities and we will be splitting the fundraiser.

“We will be supporting Hector’s House because mental health is very prevalent at the moment, especially in the emergency services.”
