Northwood FC’s chairman has been offering to help residents during the coronavirus pandemic wherever he can.
Ian Barry, who’s been club chairman for 13 years, has been running around town helping older fans in any way he can after giving out his personal details online.
He’s now reaching out to the wider community to see if he can help anyone else who needs it.
He said: “There’s quite a lot of older fans in our club demographic, and because they’ve been told they have to stay locked in, we’re doing whatever we can as a club and I’m doing whatever I can personally to help them get what they need.
“Those fans come and support our club on match days irrespective of many circumstances, and now we need to be the same for them.
“Equally, I want to help the wider community as much as possible, which is why I’m reaching out to anyone who may need it – we’ll try to help however we can. So far it’s been mainly club supporters that have been getting in touch, but there’s some very deserving cases across the wider community and I want to reach them too.”
Despite the difficult circumstances, Ian said he’s seen positive aspects of the last few weeks.
He added: “One thing that’s stayed strong through this situation is our community spirit – we’ve got that absolutely right as a town and a country. It’s a sad time, but it’s also humbling to see so many people coming together and helping where they can.”
