The Irish boxing legend Steve Collins plays the main character in the latest film directed by Shenley-based amateur film-maker James Sharpe.
Sharpe told RadlettNews that Collins approached him after the publication of his previous film, ‘The Tree’, in 2019.
Together with fellow actor and film-maker Paul King, the three started working on ‘The Bench’ around eleven months ago.
Sharpe explained that the film explores the relationship between two brothers as one battles addiction. Based on his own past experiences with alcoholism and drug-addiction, Sharpe suggested that an important theme for this film is the concept of forgiveness.
As ‘The Bench’ nears completion, Sharpe was overjoyed to hear that King has recently a second award for his portrayal of Simon in ‘The Tree’. King’s performance earned him the award for Best Supporting Actor at the Lavenham Film Festival just this October.
Looking forward, Sharpe hopes that ‘The Bench’ will do as well as his last film.
“I’ve developed a little circle of people who I know will tell me the truth, and so far they’ve all liked what we’re doing,” Sharpe smiled.
“The Shenley community is very supportive,” he added. “Whenever we need a place to film, like a post-office or a burger bar or a house, people in Shenley always offer us a place.”
Both the trailer for ‘The Bench’ and ‘The Tree’ in its entirety are available for viewing on YouTube.
