Not many people can say they have completed a marathon, but MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, David Simmonds, can now proudly say he has done it three times.
On Sunday, April 27, the MP joined thousands of runners to take part in the 26.2-mile run from Greenwich to The Mall outside Buckingham Palace.
This year marked the 45th anniversary of the event, and also a particularly record breaking one. The Guinness World of Records revealed that the event concluded with 41 new world records and 53 Guinness World Records title holders.
This was Mr Simmonds MP’s third London Marathon, and this year he was raising money for Prostate Cancer UK.
Heading to his social media, Mr Simmonds MP said: “Following months of training and in warmer conditions than usual, I am delighted to have completed my third London Marathon in 6:43:17.
“I was proud to run in support of Prostate Cancer UK, and I am thrilled to have raised £1,336 so far. Thank you for every contribution – I know this will go a long way in supporting the charity’s important work.”
Kirsty from Prostate Cancer UK responded to the MP’s post: “Huge congrats David and thanks so much for running for us!”
Residents praised the MP for his work. One said: “Congrats on the achievement and even bigger congrats on raising the funds for charity.”
Another said: “Congratulations, David Simmonds. We admire your commitment to the charity.”
