Durrants councillor Jonathon Solomons is standing down from Three Rivers District Council (TRDC).
The former councillor shared: “I feel someone else would be better placed to serve residents than myself at this point.
“I’m not really political, but in my time in council I’ve seen from the inside how much work my fellow Liberal Democrats councillors put in for their residents whilst dealing with a lot of challenges, not least the amount of misinformation spread about TRDC and the Lib Dem group.
“These councillors go out of their way to try and make our area a better place and be a voice for their residents; I have nothing but respect for that and am confident that my successor, if from within our group, would support residents with integrity and full efforts.
“I had felt the need to step down for a while and raised this with my group leader, Stephen Giles-Medhurst, but have delayed that till now to minimise the expense and inconvenience to voters so the election can be held on the same day as the county election on May 1. I understand this will avoid additional £10,000 cost.”
Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Leader of TRDC, said: “I thank Jonathon for his hard work and especially the way he has stood up for local issues and concerns in Croxley and indeed his positive suggestions for better use of social media which I and officers are and have taken on board.
“I know he felt his time constraints were an issue and I like him objected to how personal some meetings had become rather than working together to resolve problems.”
The by-election will take place on the same day as the county council elections on Thursday, May 1.
