Three Radlett residents have been recognised with prestigious titles in the New Year Honours List 2025.
Professor Richard Eric Susskind OBE KC FRSE received a CBE for services to information technology and to the law; Alexander Holmes has been awarded an OBE for services to young people; and chief ambassador of KidsOut Julian George Margolin was awarded an MBE for charitable services to children escaping domestic abuse and violence.
After 25 years in the role of technology advisor to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, Professor Susskind OBE KC FRSE stepped down on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
Professor Susskind OBE KC FRSE is releasing a new book, How to Think About AI: A Guide for the Perplexed, on March 20, 2025.
Deputy chief executive officer of The Diana Award Alexander Holmes received an OBE. He is the founder of the peer-to-peer Anti-Bullying Ambassador Programme at The Diana Award, a network of trained young people preventing bullying, particularly in schools.
Alex founded the programme at just 16 years old, after experiencing racist and homophobic bullying and witnessing the impact this can have on young people and their mental health. Alex also received The Diana Award in 2004 for his work tackling bullying.
Alexander is a Queen’s Young Leader, part of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List, a recipient of The Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award and sat on The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Advisory Board. He was named on the Independent on Sunday’s Happy List as one of the 100 people who make Britain a happier place to live.
He said: “It’s a huge honour to receive this OBE for services to young people. This is for young people who experienced bullying, like I did at a young age, but don’t realise their strengths in disguise. I’m proud of the young people I’ve supported over many years. I know my mother, who sadly died last year, would be incredibly proud too.”
Chief ambassador of KidsOut Julian George Margolin was awarded an MBE for his role at the charity which provides fun and happiness to disadvantaged children across the UK through providing days out, toy boxes, food vouchers and more.
