A St Albans resident has completed a staggering ultra-endurance challenge this summer, becoming the first person to run to the summit of, and in between, each mountain of the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge.
As the sun emerged on the morning of Friday, August 5, Isaac Kenyon started his gruelling test in the North of Wales, on Mt. Snowdon Ranger Path. After running to and from the highest peak in the country, he headed southwards to Cader Idris, and then finished at Pen y Fan at around 5pm on Monday, August 8.
It took Isaac just four days to run 233km (145 miles), a truly incredible and unprecedented achievement. During the course of the challenge, Isaac covered the height of Mt Everest in elevation.
Isaac embarked on this adventure to raise money for Mind in Mid Herts, a mental health charity that is close to his heart, and of which he is a trustee.
Isaac has battled his own mental health issues in the past, and said: “Far too many men like myself didn’t or don’t get the support they need as they remain silent and end up feeling isolated and sometimes never make it out of dark places.
“It needs to be made known that no one is alone in their struggles and that there are outlets and help, some being natural ones like running in the outdoors and others being charities available for them.”
Isaac’s journey was documented by his good friend, Jacob Chambers. They plan to release a film entitled “Solo Peaks”, which hopes to tackle the stigmas and fears surrounding speaking out about mental health issues.
Isaac said: “I hope it will inspire other men to reconnect and access their own nature spots to help support their physical and mental health. Running, for me, gives headspace to relax, be mindful and reduce anxiety and stress.”
