Teen takes on Watford mayor to celebrate his idea of free facilities

Published on: 3rd August 2018   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watford resident Matthew Lee played a game of table tennis earlier this week with Watford mayor Peter Taylor to celebrate the opening of the free table tennis tables he suggested be installed.

Keen table tennis player Matthew, aged 13, got in touch with the Mayor after playing on the free tables in the Intu Centre earlier this year. He suggested that there could be similar tables installed in Cassiobury Park for the summer. The Mayor took up his request and the tables were installed outside of the tennis courts last week.

Bats are available from the Cha Café.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said, “I was really pleased that Matthew got in touch with this suggestion. It was a good idea and I’m delighted that we now have these table tennis tables in Cassiobury Park.”

“I hope residents make good use of the great facility over the summer holidays.”

Matthew said:  ‘I played on the table tennis tables in the Intu centre and really enjoyed them. I thought it would be a really good idea for them to be in Cassiobury Park as well so I emailed the Mayor. I wasn’t expecting a response but they got in touch straight away for it to be looked into. I’m impressed how quickly the tables have been put up.’

‘I’ll definitely be using them a lot over the summer!’
