‘TEAM EFFORT’: Art project gives Croxley schoolchildren ‘the space to express themselves’

Picasso once said: “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

One woman is helping children hold onto their creativity by nurturing their passion through her art and textiles classes.

Hanim, founder of KKTS Textile Studio, runs after-school and summer art and textiles clubs across Croxley and Rickmansworth. Through hands-on projects, she gives children opportunities to explore different forms of art – something she believes is too often missing in their lives today.

Last term, children from Little Green, Harvey Road, Malvern Way, and other local schools collaborated on a striking sea life-themed collage using wet felting. The idea was sparked by conversations about ocean pollution.

Armed with yarn, soap, water and netting, the children crafted their own felt pieces, which were assembled into a shared artwork now proudly on display at Croxley Green Library until September.

Hanim told Croxley News: “The collage was a real team effort. It represents over 80 children contributing something unique, while also enjoying being part of a shared project with students from other schools.”

Classes are not just about art and textiles, and also champion confidence and inclusion.

Hanim added: “Many children, especially those who are neurodiverse, don’t always get the space to express themselves creatively and it’s nice to hear from parents how their children have changed thanks to these opportunities.”

This summer, KKTS is offering classes for both children and adults, as well as holiday camps. Visit  kkts-textilestudio.co.uk or @kkts_textile.studio on Instagram to find out more.
