‘TAKE OWNERSHIP’: Three Rivers council demands apology from MP over ‘inaccurate’ leaflets

Published on: 17th July 2023   |   By: Darius Morgan   |   Category: Uncategorized

Gagan Mohindra, MP for South West Hertfordshire, has one day left to respond to councillors who have demanded a public apology after circulating leaflets which allegedly contain “lies” circulated in Chorleywood.

A number of leaflets, signed by Mr Mohindra MP, declaring that Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) was building 1,000 homes on green belt land were recently delivered to village residents.

TRDC has vehemently denied these accusations and highlighted that the planning application Mr Mohindra MP refers to was actually rejected in March.

At a full council meeting on July 11, a motion was put forward to demand the MP withdraws and publicly apologises for his claim within five working days and assures the council he will not do this again.

Twenty-six councillors voted for the motion, zero were against, and nine abstained.

Leader of TRDC councillor Sarah Nelmes said: “The council has not proposed or supported any housing development within the Chilterns area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) and has never consulted any site within the AONB as a potential development site within our emerging Local Plan.

“I have previously written to Mr Mohindra MP asking for him to withdraw and apologise for the confusion and upset his misleading leaflet caused to residents. I have not received a response back.

“I hope the MP will apologise and take ownership for the hurt and confusion caused, and double-check his facts.”

Mr Mohindra MP has been contacted for comment.
