A new care provider has taken over a Chorleywood care home weeks after a Care Quality Commission (CQC) found areas that “required improvement”.
An inspector visited Signature at Chorleywood in March of this year with the report published in May. The care home was deemed to need improvement in three of five categories.
One key issue that was discovered was how oxygen therapy was being managed at the home.
The report said: “Staff had not had training on oxygen therapy and the associated risks. The management and provider were not thoroughly monitoring and assessing this aspect of people’s care to assure themselves and others everyone was safe in relation to the use of oxygen.”
New providers Avery Healthcare (AH) took control of the home on June 1, although confirmed to ChorleywoodNews that the change was not linked to the report’s outcome.
A spokesperson for AH said: “The outcome is disappointing for the team at Chorleywood Manor, who work very hard. AH and the team at the home have put a robust plan in place to make significant improvements now that the care home is under Avery’s management.”
A spokesperson for Signature Senior Lifestyle said: “We were pleased the CQC rated the home as ‘Good’ for ‘caring’ and ‘responsive’, and that the report featured a lot of positive comments from residents about the quality of care we provided. Immediately following the inspection, we created a detailed action plan to improve on the few shortcomings that had been highlighted. We had made very positive progress on this plan by the time the home transferred to its new owners at the start of June.
“At all times, our priority is to provide exceptional care and quality of life to our residents, and this is what we will continue to do at our remaining homes in Hertfordshire and across the UK.”
