The Greenhouse hub has saved almost 100kg of pill packages from ending up in landfill since opening five months ago.
Open in May, the Greenhouse is St Albans’ hub for all things green, they work with the local community to advise and inspire a better life for the planet.
Amongst many other resources, the team offer speciality recycling, their most popular being pill packages and since their opening they have recycled almost 100kg.
The packages are hard to recycle as they are made up of plastic and aluminium foil, resulting in a product that is hard to separate into its raw components and thus harder to recycle.
Speaking to StALBANS news Tricia Gibbons, who runs the Greenhouse, said: “I think encouraging people to recycle is an important part of our engagement work, it is something everyone can do and it leads to greater awareness and behaviour change. When people start to recycle they often reduce their consumption and start to reuse things more too.
“What we hope to do is make it easier for people to recycle and to learn about more sustainable alternatives.”
The hub offers other recycling such as: glasses, printer cartridges, pringles tubes and dental care items.
