‘Supporters have to play their part’ says Watford legend

Watford FC legend Luther Blissett believes the team can win the FA Cup but believes the Hornet supporters have to get behind the team.

Speaking to MyNews, the former striker, who netted 186 goals for the club, is calling for Watford fans to “turn up” on May 18 to spur Gracia’s men on.

Luther said: “The supporters will play their part. They can sometimes be the lift that clubs need and the energy they show off the field will transfer to the players.

“This also lies with the team as a good performance will urge the supporters on.”

Luther went on to say that he believes the team will “secure a very special place in the clubs history” at Wembley.

He added: “Playing in the FA Cup final is what everyone dreams about. The one thing they have to do on the day is believe that it’s going to be there day. When we won the play offs in 1999 everyone was convinced that we was going to win it. It’s all about confidence.

“They’ve also got to make sure they bring the supporters with them. They will do that by giving a good performance. I think they will secure a very special place in the clubs history.

“Yes everyone is saying enjoy the day, take it in, which they have to do but they have to be focussed on winning, not worrying about everything that is happening around them.”
