St Albans City & District Council (SADC) has been promoting its sustainable message through a series of schemes and projects.
Solar Together Hertfordshire launched a new scheme with SADC last year, allowing residents to sign up to receive help in purchasing high-quality solar panels and battery storage. Six-hundred households in St Albans took part in 2022.
Now, those who missed out last year are invited to register their interest in joining Solar Together before the deadline on Friday, October 27.
Councillor Raj Visram, SADC’s lead councillor for climate, said: “The scheme proved very popular when we launched it in the district last year and we are expecting a considerable response for this second round. I would urge residents to register an interest before the closing date.”
On top of this, SADC has appointed a specialist contractor to undertake £18million worth of improvements to more than 900 homes, reducing tenants’ energy bills. The work will be carried out by Correct Contract Services (CCS) .
This work is partly funded by an £8.45million grant obtained from a successful bid to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. The remaining £9.7million comes from SADC’s housing budget.
Councillor Jacqui Taylor, chair of the Housing and Inclusion Committee, launched the programme alongside Danny Gladwyn, CCS’s managing director.
She said: “We are delighted to have made a successful bid amid intense competition to help fund this ambitious programme. It is a testament to the hard work that has gone into making a detailed application.”
