SUPER SKATER: Planning permission granted for new Chalfont St Peter skate park

Published on: 21st November 2023   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

The planning application, which was submitted in July, has now been approved. The new skate park will be built behind Chalfont St Peter Community Centre, off Gravel Hill.

This is where the village’s current skate park stands, but residents feel that it is rundown and unsafe. With the population of the village increasing due to new housing developments, locals believe the area needs greater investment and better amenities.

The objective of the Chalfonts Activity Park Project (CAPP), the group campaigning for the new skate park, is to collaborate with the community and local authority to build a modern wheeled sports activity park for people of all ages to enjoy on their bikes, skates, skateboards and scooters.

If there is enough interest and funding, the group would like the skate park to include other features so it can become something the whole community can enjoy and where families can gather and participate in a wide range of activities.

The team has a fundraising target of £3,000. To donate, please visit bit.ly/3QMm3L4

Chalfont St Peter Parish Council (CSPPC) has also pledged £50,000 towards the project.

A spokesperson for CSPPC said: “CSPPC was approached by a group of residents with a proposal to build a skate park in Chalfont St Peter. CAPP was formed, after much hard work, many meetings, public consultations and, with the help of the parish council, planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of a skate park.

“CSPPC has agreed £50,000 to kickstart the funding needed to build the free-to-use skate park. The CAPP group and CSPPC are working together to begin the fundraising campaign, exploring various options of funding streams within Buckinghamshire Council, The National Lottery and Sport England.”
