This month, NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews caught up with the Northwood Musical Theatre Choir ahead of a jam-packed calendar of concerts.
The choir is led by performer and West End vocal coach Alex Davies, who moved to Northwood with her husband who is in the RAF.
She said: “I don’t have family or friends here, so creating the choir has been a lifeline for me!”
Upcoming events include their Spring Concert at St John’s United Reformed Church in Northwood on Saturday, March 29, which will raise money for the Arts for Life project.
One of their members, Kim Hatton, is taking part in the Soprano Songbird concert at St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden on Sunday, March 23, with West End star Gina Beck. Money raised at the concert will go to the MS Society, a cause close to Kim’s heart as she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1986.
Kim said: “Being part of Northwood choir, led by the wonderful Alex Davies, has also provided a sense of community and social support which is crucial for somebody living with MS.
“My greatest moments have been the social events and having the opportunity to perform on stage alongside Gareth Malone.”
With nearly 60 singers, the Northwood-based choir continues to grow and welcomes anyone interested in joining to get in touch.
Alex added: “Some people just come to sing, not to perform. We a lot of social things like going to the cinema, going on walks, and theatre trips!”
