Action for Silk Stream (AfSS) has continued its work within the community throughout February and March, planting more than 200 new trees across two parks in Edgware.
Watling Park and Chandos Park were the focus of AfSS’ recent biodiversity improvements.
In Watling Park, an underused space has been planted with a variety of fruit trees to create a community orchard. Species include apple, pear, apricot, cherry, plum, damson, gage and mulberry trees. The Friends of Watling Park have welcomed local residents to help them look after this space.
In Chandos Park, a new woodland area has been planted with over 30 native trees, creating a habitat for species including insects, birds and bats.
AfSS continued its work cleaning Edgware Brook on Thursday, February 27, working alongside Harrow Litter Pickers to remove 14 bags’ worth of rubbish from the river.
AfSS is a project led by Harrow and Barnet Councils. Their next monthly volunteering day takes place from 11am to 3pm on Thursday, March 27, where volunteers will be litter picking and planting various water-loving plants at Watling Park.
