A 12-year-old tennis champion from Radlett has soared to new heights with his successes at a national tournament at Wimbledon.
Last month, Radlett News reported that Noah Sperry would be taking part in the national finals of the Play Your Way to Wimbledon tournament, after winning his individual club event and the county finals.
With the competition beginning on Sunday, August 6, Noah found himself competing against players at least two years older than him, but he didn’t let that affect his game.
In an outstanding sporting performance, the young pro won every single one of his three group games. His first was a straight set victory, whilst his second proved to be a slightly scrappier affair, but he managed to get through the next stages.
The third group victory secured his spot at the top of the group.
In his first knockout match, Noah won his first set, and was on his way to claiming victory in the second when his opponent had to retire, putting him in the contest’s final eight. His winning streak was finally cut short in the quarter-final, in a tough match against the tournament’s second seed.
Speaking to Radlett News, Noah’s coach Chris Martin said: “We went in without much expectation. The fact that he’s done so well against these boys who are much older than him is amazing.
“I’m ecstatic for him. It’s such a great opportunity for him to do at such a young age.”
