A school in Watford has been awarded with a quality mark highlighting its efforts to provide a curriculum that empowers its diverse pupils.
Laurance Haines School on Vicarage Road has been awarded the EAL Gold Quality Mark from the EAL Academy.
Miriam Al-Alousi, Year 4 classroom teacher and bilingual provision and modern foreign languages lead, said: “Over 70 per cent of our cohort consist of multilingual learners. We are proud of achieving the Gold EAL Quality Trademark awarded by the EAL Academy. Our school ethos is centred around the motto: ‘You see me. You hear me. I belong’.”
Headteacher Sebastian Gray said: “Being awarded the EAL Quality Mark, Gold Award, is recognition of our ongoing commitment to inclusion, supporting children and families to make excellent progress in the acquisition of the English language. Language and culture are celebrated for all new starters, which are representative of a global population.
“The staff have designed and implement a diverse curriculum, which is representative of the children and community.
“The award will motivate the team to continue to make enhancements across the curriculum.”
