A pedestrian tunnel in Hunton Bridge which was “beautifully” painted in recent years has already fallen into a state of disrepair.
The artwork, commissioned by Three Rivers District Council and painted by Mark Tanti, depicts scenes from the village such as the cricket club, pubs, nature and wildlife. There are also designs of turtles and more from local pupils which were brought to life by professional artists.
Local resident Debbie contacted ABBOTSnews about the current state of the artwork.
Debbie said: “It’s such a shame. The tunnel was beautifully painted with fantastic artwork and now the paint is peeling badly and it’s an absolute mess.”
Debbie and her husband believe the artists failed to properly prime the walls and did not use the correct type of paint.
A spokesperson for HCC said: “Our highways team are going to visit the site and assess the situation. We believe the structure itself belongs to Network Rail.”
