A Premier League legend attended the launch of a state-of-the-art fitness studio at Harpenden Leisure Centre, in partnership with St Albans City and District Council, on January 16.
Alan Shearer, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer, has been a lover of FORTIS workouts since his retirement from professional football in 2006.
FORTIS workouts are 30-minute HIIT sessions based around Speedflex’s personalised resistance concept, which allows each participant to train at their own optimum level and pace.
The MYZONE partnership also provides participants with a live feed of heartrate data and feedback on their effort level throughout the class.
Alan told StAlbansNews: “I would have loved it to be around when I was playing! I know Newcastle have used it.
“When I retired, I couldn’t find any training to suit me because of the problems that I had. I had more than my fair share of injuries; I had 15 operations. And then Speedflex came along. High intensity, low impact, it’s perfect, and I’ve done it ever since. Whether you’re 16 or 18, or my age at 52, it’s a great form of exercise.
“Speedflex works for all ages, for all sizes, whoever you are; it’s a perfect way of exercising.”
In celebration of the launch, over the next month residents are being offered the chance to book a free session and experience the fitness concept for themselves.
