William Shakespeare once said: “If music be the food of love, play on.”
Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood has taken this idea and run with it for 24 hours.
Seven students undertook a 24-hour music marathon to raise money for HVP Nepal. The charity seeks to provide a strong future for Nepal through schools and community projects.
The Sixth Form students and staff came together on Friday January 31, and worked to ensure that there was music playing in the school for 24 hours.
One of the students said: “Fourteen hours of uninterrupted music with nobody to help us but those staff who had been strong-armed into staying, watching as we played the same chord progression for the 23rd time. However, in a shock to us all, we ended up carrying on the evening with a karaoke night, courtesy of Miss Green, Mr Hilton-Dennis, Mrs Younge, and Ms Solomons.”
The students finished off the 24-hour challenge with “a rousing performance of the school song”. They have raised more than £1,370 for the charity.
