Students at a Rickmansworth school recently enjoyed a special talk from BBC employees, who shared their tips on how they managed to get ahead in their careers.
The visit on November 22 was part of the BBC’s Share Your Story education programme, which aims to inspire young people with practical advice, as part of the BBC’s centenary celebrations.
BBC researchers Charlie and Jace delivered sessions to Rickmansworth School students in Years 7 to 10, with the main theme being resilience.
Charlie spoke about how she learned to embrace her differences and went on to do amazing things in adulthood, while Jace talked about moving from the UK to Nigeria as a child and then returning when he was 16. He detailed his journey after unexpected circumstances led to him being homeless, and highlighted the ups and downs of rebuilding his life. He also spoke of the power of resilience.
A spokesperson for the school said: “Rickmansworth School wishes to thank the BBC for its visit today. Students found both talks inspiring, with one student coming away with the saying ‘never give up‘, while another said that ‘being yourself is all that matters’.”
