Proposals to replace a fire-damaged mobile home in Garston with a two-storey building were withdrawn last month.
The initial proposal had been submitted in April, suggesting the site of the damaged mobile home on the corner of Lingmoor Drive and Loweswater Close should be transformed into a two-storey building containing five flats.
Some residents appeared happy with the idea.
One said: “I think that it will enhance the area as long as it is no higher than two storeys. I am happy that the architect has chosen to use red/brown and yellow brick to match surrounding buildings.”
But the plan also received 18 objections.
One neighbour said: “There are too many flats in the area. Building these flats will cause the devaluation of properties to a number of residents.”
Another said: “The corner can already be dangerous owing to the amount of traffic coming in and out, which I know is an ongoing concern for not only myself but other residents in the area. Building these flats will increase the danger and risk level owing to the amount of new traffic it will generate.”
Hertfordshire Highways recommended on April 27 that the plan be refused, while a Watford Borough Council tree manager also objected due to the plan’s risk of “causing harm to existing trees”.
The plan was withdrawn on Monday, June 12, but the applicant is still considering other options for the site.
The agents for the plans, Rebecca Cooper Architects, have been contacted for comment.
