St Albans college responds after sex tape leak

Oaklands College in St Albans terminated its contract with a football academy after a sex tape was leaked on social media involving two of its staff on college grounds.

The video, which is from five years ago and involved a female head coach and a male player from Royston Town Football Club having sex, was leaked on social media after the woman’s iCloud account was hacked.

The pair were staff at the EDSV Academy, a football academy which had a long-term contract with Oaklands College that was set to run for another three years.

Following the incident, however, the college released a statement saying it had parted ways with EDSV.

It said: “Oaklands College are no longer working with the EDSV Academy.

“Oaklands College is in discussions with semi-professional and professional football clubs to continue our elite level football academy programme.

“We would like to stress this decision will not affect the academy experience of our current Oaklands Wolves and EDSV students during this transitional phase.

“For new and existing EDSV students the college will be in touch shortly confirming our new elite football provider and the great opportunities available.”

A further statement on April 1 added: “The safety of our students is of paramount importance. In light of incidents on social media involving a director and coach of EDSV, the college is now in talks with other elite academies to continue the football success going forward.”

A large portion of Oaklands students and parents have shown plenty of support for EDSV on social media, some of whom labelled the college’s handling of the situation as “unprofessional”.

EDSV tweeted: “Proud of everyone at The Academy for the overwhelming support that is being shown from parents, players, staff past a present and also organisations and partners of our family.”
