The author of a romantic novel has said that she is delighted with her book being shortlisted for an award at the 2019 Romantic Novel Awards.
Lesley Eames, who is from St Albans, wrote The Silver Ladies of London which has been nominated for the Goldsboro Books Historical Romantic Novel Award.
Lesley novel centres around young women in the 1920’s who battle hardship and discrimination when setting up business in what some think is a man’s world.
Lesley said: “The books theme includes friendship, courage, loyalty and love. It’s also about discrimination against women in the 1920’s so it has quite a serious tone.”
With the story being set in the 1920’s, it addresses both grinding poverty and the glamour of jazz clubs, fashion and motor racing.
The Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) was founded back in 1960 to promote romantic fiction and support authors.
Lesley said: “To be shortlisted, it is surprising yet exciting. I didn’t know my novel was even being considered, let alone nominated. It’s a lovely surprise.
“St Albans also gets a mention in the book as it includes a treasure hunt around Hertfordshire.”
Lesley is currently working on her second book that is not a follow up to The Silver Ladies of London however is a stand-alone; this means it is written in the same world as Silver Ladies.
The winner is set to be announced by Alison Weir during the ceremony at the Gladstone Library in London.
At the time of writing, the award ceremony had not yet taken place, but the winner was due to be announced on March 4.
