SPUD-TACULAR VICTORY: School school wins Croxley bucket competition with homegrown potatoes

Published on: 17th October 2025   |   By: Ellie Rose   |   Category: Uncategorized

Harvey Road Primary School mashed the competition at the Croxley Hardware Potato Bucket Competition.

Held at the Croxley Annual Home & Produce Show on Saturday, September 13, the school was “excited” to scoop the prize with their winning crop weighing in at a whooping 423 grams.

In the spring, the school’s Gardening Club planted seed potatoes in buckets, nurturing them with love.

While some were harvested before the summer, one lucky bucket was saved for this showdown.

On the day, owner of Croxley Hardware Tony Walker awarded the cup to Ruben and Ansh, who helped to grow the potatoes.

Though not all spuds could be crowned a winner, the children have plans to make soup with the remaining potatoes.

Mrs Cheek, who runs the gardening club, told CROXLEYnews: “The club is very popular with the children, and they really enjoy growing and eating different vegetables, as well as seeing all the mini-beasts and other wildlife in the garden.”
