A badminton team from a school in Northwood have been crowned national champions after a competitive showdown last month.
Pupils from St Helens Prep School recently competed in the IAPS National Badminton Tournament and went on to grab the victory.
At the tournament hosted by Eastbourne College, Elissia, Leeya, Leila and Pia, were the only female competitors in tournament.
Elissia and Leeya were too strong for the boys in their group as they progressed to the knockout rounds and played some fantastic badminton to reach the finals.
Despite being up against strong opponents, York House boys, who were high on confidence after some great wins, the girls smashed the final to clinch victory, 21-16 & 21-18 to become the IAPS National Champions.
Pia and Leila also played outstandingly well, showing resolve and determination in all their matches. They were worthy runners up in the plate competition losing by only one point to the eventual winners.
Mrs Lee, head of Prep School, said she couldn’t be prouder of the badminton team.
She said: “The determination and energy that all four girls played with at the International Association of Prep Schools National Finals was outstanding. The fact that we walked away with the winner’s trophy was the icing on the cake!
“Well done to all the Badminton players for getting us to the finals and the amazing coaches at St Helen’s in supporting the girls on their journey.”
