SPLASH: Burst pipe in Chorleywood accidentally makes geyser of water

Published on: 12th November 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A burst pipe that sent water spraying up more than 30ft in the air was captured on video by a surprised resident.

Steve Clarke captured the scene in the late evening of Sunday, October 29 whilst going down Shire Lane in Chorleywood, which had been closed because of the water problems.

Videoing the water spray, he later posted the footage to the RCCG community Facebook group, joking: “Shire Lane in Chorleywood is completely closed at Haddon Road due to a new water feature!”

Many residents reacted humorously to the sight, with one commenting that the burst pipe was “the latest attraction on the Chorleywood Tourist Trail.”

A spokesperson for Affinity Water, the company responsible for the area’s water mains, said: “On October 29, 2022, we attended and repaired a burst on a water main in Shire Lane, Chorleywood.

The site has now been reinstated and new tarmac laid with accompanying site clearance. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers.”

Hertfordshire County Council, who were also contacted for comment, confirmed that Affinity Water were carrying out work from October 29 to November 3.
