Pupils at a Northwood school were left “thoroughly inspired” after a visit from broadcaster, author and priest Richard Coles.
Northwood College for Girls welcomed the bestselling writer last week to speak with Years 3 to 8 about his new children’s book, A Heist Before Bedtime. The school shared on Facebook: “It was a pleasure to welcome Reverend Richard Coles to discuss his brand-new children’s book with our Years 3 to 8 students.”
During the visit, Coles read excerpts and discussed reading habits, with pupils eagerly engaging. The post added that students asked questions including: “how long does it take to write a book?” and “were you ever naughty at school?”
Published in April 2026, the book is Coles’ first for children and features a collection of “twelve TRUE crime stories for kids,” including unusual real-life heists and mysteries aimed at readers aged nine-years-old and older.
Coles, a former pop musician turned Church of England priest and media personality, has previously written bestselling adult fiction and memoirs.
The school said the event left its “enthralled audience” excited about reading.
