SPEAK UP: Berkhamsted residents invited to have their say on leisure centre transformation

Published on: 24th February 2022   |   By: Holly Bullen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Residents are being invited to have their say on proposals for a new leisure centre in Berkhamsted.

The proposals which have been a year in the making have been put forward by Dacorum Borough Council (DBC) with the aim of building a new, modern leisure facility within the existing site.

Included in the plans is a range of new and improved facilities such as a teaching pool, a larger fitness suite and a spa and treatment zone.

Residents are being invited to comment on the proposals via a consultation which opened in mid-February and will close on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at midnight.

Councillor Andrew Williams, portfolio holder for corporate and contracted services, said that they are looking forward to hearing the feedback from residents.

He said: “The proposed new leisure centre could deliver an extensive range of facilities to meet the needs of both current and future users. I hope that residents will take the opportunity to have their say in helping to shape the next stage of this exciting proposal.”

DBC has also proposed a new football 3G pitch as part of the plans which would be larger than the pitches currently provided at the existing leisure centre, to better serve the needs of the football community.

The pitch could potentially be built if other options being explored by DBC are not possible. If they are able to find a suitable off-site option for the 3G pitch, we have the potential to use some of the site for residential development, which would provide funding for the cost of the new leisure centre

The decision on whether to proceed with the replacement leisure centre is dependent upon a number of factors, including the consultation findings, final costings and planning consent.

Residents can complete the consultation survey online by visiting the council’s website.
