An Abbots Langley woman who launched an online menopause group is now offering members the chance to meet in person.
Karen Ashworth started the Surviving the Menopause (STM) Facebook group in 2019, with the aim of creating a space for conversation and support for women facing similar challenges, where members can share their strategies for coping with the menopause.
What started as a small group for local people soon blossomed into an international community, with women joining from all over the globe. STM is now approaching 800 members, nearly double the amount since ABBOTSnews last reported on the group in 2020.
Over the past year, Karen has begun an adjacent group known as the Soraya Walkers, and everyone in the local area is invited to join in.
Karen said: “We average one walk a month. They last an hour to an hour-and-a-half, usually with a drink stop incorporated.
“Some people struggle to talk openly; sometimes walking and moving can help them open up. There’s no cost, and any over-18s are welcome.”
