Amersham A Cappella are doing all they can to raise money ahead of the international a capella championships in July 2025.
Founded in 1982, Amersham A Cappella is an all-female barbershop singing group with 73 members ranging in age from 25 to 80.
The Buckinghamshire group has had a number of extraordinary successes, winning gold in many national competitions and also winning last year’s international championship.
Winning in 2023 means that the group has automatically qualified to represent the UK in the next championship, taking place in Denver, Colorado, in July 2025.
When asked about representing the UK, Amersham A Cappella’s public relations officer Soozi Hyde told AMERSHAMnews: “It is such an honour and a privilege, a dream come true!”
However, there is a long road ahead for the group due to how expensive the trip will be, with the competition registration alone costing £18,000.
The group will have to find the money for flights, accommodation, costumes, food, and more.
Soozi said: “We want to bring as many members as we can and whilst we are self-funding, we also need to fundraise.”
The singers are doing all they can to raise funds, including singing at events, a fashion show, car boot sales, and even creating and selling a cookbook featuring the members’ signature dishes.
Their latest fundraising exercise is sing-o-grams, where members can be hired for singing telegrams.
Soozi said that although the singing and the competitions are important, their other mission is to be a force for good in the local community.
She added: “We encourage and welcome anyone to come along to our rehearsal at St Michael and All Angels Church to listen and enjoy.”
