A mother dropping her children off at school in Rickmansworth had the surprise of her life after spotting a six-legged freshwater creature.
Stephanie Heffernan was walking with her children along Springwell Avenue when she noticed a strange animal on the path.
It turned out to be a crayfish, a type of large crustacean that can often be found in rivers and lakes across the UK. However, seeing one of these creatures walking along a path in Rickmansworth is not so common.
Stephanie quickly snapped a photo of the crustacean and shared it with the Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Croxley Green & Villages Community Facebook group. Comments on the post were full of several residents all sharing their confusion, jokes and joy at the peculiar photo.
Stephanie said: “It has definitely caused a stir!”
