SOBELL BRIDGE CLUB: Popular group encourages new members to join

Published on: 27th December 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Northwood bridge club is looking for new members ahead of the beginning of their new season in January.

Sobell Bridge Club is connected to Michael Sobell Hospice at Mount Vernon Hospital. As well as being a hub for members to come together and play the classic card game, all the money raised by the club is donated to the hospice.

Speaking to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews, member Peter Cobden said: “Since COVID-19, we’ve been one of the few bridge clubs doing well.

“Bridge is a great social game for people of all ages and all abilities.

“Of our club, 40 per cent of the members live on their own. In our constitution, we say we’re here to help out the lonely and bereaved.

“Bridge is great at keeping people’s minds active too. We’ve had members in the past who have been over 100 years old and still in fine mental shape.”

The club will be playing at the new location of the Merchant Taylors’ School’s clubhouse as of Wednesday, January 24, due to parking issues at their former location.

To join up to the club, just turn up at 7.30pm on January 24 and give it a go.
