An inspiring 11-year-old Chorleywood resident has had her very own ‘mic drop’ moment after hosting a BBC radio show.
Chorleywood news has shared countless stories about Betsy Griffin. The young resident has taken the country by storm after using her story to motivate and inspire others.
At age two, Betsy was diagnosed with a brain tumour which has left her blind. However, she hasn’t let this stop her pursuing her dreams.
She has written her very own book, with broadcaster Fearne Cotton recording the audio version. She also received the Bravery Award at the BBC Make a Difference awards ceremony and appeared on This Morning.
Now, Betsy has ticked another achievement off her list after hosting a show on BBC Three Counties Radio on Sunday, December 22.
During the 30-minute set, she played tracks by artists including Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, and Bill Haley & His Comets, mixed with snippets about the singers and their songs.
Speaking to the BBC after the show, Betsy said: “It was kind of like second nature. Honestly, you’ve made a girl’s dream come true.”
The show was such a success that Betsy then appeared on BBC Radio 4’s ‘In Touch’ Christmas Eve Special alongside comedian Chris McCausland, last year’s winner of Strictly Come Dancing, who is also blind.
Her dad Stuart posted on social media: “We’re so proud of her for following her passion and making this incredible dream a reality.
“It’s so amazing to see Betsy making the most of these fantastic opportunities and sharing her talents and passion with even more listeners.”
