At the heart of Vanessa Class School of Dance in Bushey is a family unlike any other – something which they made clear at this year’s “phenomenal” fundraising show.
From Saturday, March 15, to Monday, March 17, 300 students from across the school came together at The Radlett Centre to show off their incredible talent.
However, the dancers were doing more than entertaining the crowds, as they also helped to “raise money for other children less fortunate them themselves”.
Selling quicker than tickets to see Michael McIntyre, all seats for the four shows sold out in 12 minutes.
From two-year-old tots to West End worthy numbers, the dance school delivered a weekend full of fun and excitement.
This included a special performance from one of the women who helps backstage at the shows. Sadly, she lost her brother to a rare cancer last summer.
Stepping out of her comfort zone and bringing together six other mums from the school, she performed a dance routine to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital’s (GOSH) cancer unit.
Having already raised more than £300,000 in 24 years, this year Vanessa and the school raised £14,000 with one of their best performances yet.
Speaking to BUSHEYnews, Vanessa said: “I was so, so proud. When I did my speech at the end, I was overwhelmed with emotion.
“Every song had a meaning to everybody, and every class had their own special dance so there was meaning behind each one.
“Every year, we say we get better than last year, but it’s all the children. Their standard improves, and there are so many talented kids who stand out in their own way.”
