SNAPPED-SHOT: ULEZ camera cut down in Northwood

An Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) camera in Northwood recently fell victim to an act of vandalism.

Northwood & Ruislip News was recently sent this image by an anonymous member of the public. It shows a pole with a camera on top, located on Rickmansworth Road near the junction with Green Lane. The camera has been completely cut down.

The resident stated: “No idea exactly when it happened, or who did it, but it was probably done by someone who did not like the idea of paying loads of money to drive their car on the local roads.

“It’s a neat cut, most probably a circular saw. They also cut through all the cables, which is a bit risky!”

Since being expanded to the full Greater London area in August of last year, drivers of vehicles which do not meet environmental standards set by Transport for London are charged £12.50 per day.

The decision to expand ULEZ, a flagship policy of recently re-elected Mayor Sadiq Khan, has proved controversial; some have praised the positive impact this will have on clear air in the capital, while others argue it is unfair to drivers who do not have the means to buy a replacement car.

The Metropolitan Police have been contacted for comment.
