An Abbots Langley boxer has triumphed in his first ever professional fight held earlier this year.

At the fight held at Woodside Leisure Centre in Garston, Brandon Lewis from the village put on a great performance when up against Croatian Stanko Jermelic.

This was part of tournament, Young Lions 2.0 arranged by Brandon’s manager Tony Pill, who organised the event after the success of the first.

Speaking to AbbotsNews, Brandon said the fight was a long time coming but was well worth the wait.

He said: “It felt amazing, it was long overdue, but it felt right that I was in my natural habitat and doing what I was meant to be doing and put on this planet to do.

“I was so thankful to have my people there, the energy was crazy and it was even more meaningful to have my loved ones and local supporters there.”

The fight was Brandon’s debut after he took the leap to go professional after he was faced with a crossroads when the pandemic hit.

He said: “I got into boxing due to my love of fighting, I used to be a kickboxer and compete in K1.

“I wanted to do something that I loved to do, I always that there was a magnetism towards boxing, something pulling me towards my purpose.

“I started boxing out of Finchley Amateur Boxing Club and then another season out of Neasden Amateur Boxing Club before COVID hit.

“We had to make the choice or either leap into pro boxing or wait an indefinite amount of time to box again.

“I’m not getting any younger and I thought I might as well fulfil my passion, so we took the jump.”

Brandon has several more fights planned this year and is hoping to compete for a British title within the next two years.

Paying tribute to his Abbots roots, he said: “I’ve been part of the community since day dot, love the place, don’t think I will ever move out of Abbots Langley. It will always have a place in my heart”

Brandon also thanked all those in his team including Kingsley Morgan, Jason Matthews, Don Charles and Tony Pill.

As well as his sponsors MMAK Alloy Wheels LTD and Barboza.
