SLOW DOWN: Chalfont St Peter resident starts petition to reduce speed limit on A413

Published on: 8th January 2021   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Chalfont St Peter resident is campaigning to cut the speed limit along the A413 between Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross.

This is the same stretch of road where a 23-year-old woman lost her life following a late night crash.

Resident Jagdeep Kandola has managed to gather over 600 signatures in support of reducing the speed between The Greyhound Inn (Joiners Lane Roundabout) and the roundabout junction with Kingsway, as he fears more deadly incidents.

On the petition page, Jagdeep wrote: “The engagement so far from the local community has been incredibly passionate and supportive. There has been support from drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians and residents.

“It is clear that the stretch of road is used as a regular crossing point for commuters, school children and the local community frequently and lots of residents feel very unsafe. Equally, drivers, motorcyclists and cyclists feel they are taking their life into their own hands, especially when they are going against the flow of the A413 traffic at the Kingsway and Greyhound roundabouts.

“There were also specific concerns raised around the impact of HS2 HGVs that are due to start using the road in the coming months.”

The petition pushes to reduce the speed limit from 70mph to 40mph, which would result in only a 15-second increase in journey time across the 557m stretch between the two roundabouts.

Residents have also taken to social media to highlight the issue.

One person said: “l can never get over the speed they travel down the A413! I hope they put more lights up because it seems to always be when there’s bad visibility.”

Another resident wrote on December 31: “ Two more incidents on the A413 in the last 48 hours just so everyone is aware.

“A silver Subaru Estate written off at the South Park/golf club crossing point. Another vehicle has hit the roundabout at the Heights entry in the exact same spot where the recent fatality was, taking out the new sponsorship sign.”
