A Watford builder has set himself “one hell of a challenge” next summer as he prepares to tackle 42 mountains to support men’s mental health in construction.
Three years ago this month, James O’Sullivan tried to take his own life due to financial problems and debt that he couldn’t see a way out of. Now in 2026, he is sober, healthy, and has a business team he is “incredibly proud of” in the industry.
The 41-year-old credits parts of his recovery to mountains and outdoor life, which have helped him fight past difficult moments in his life. So, combining climbing and raising awareness for men’s mental health in construction in this feat was a no-brainer for the hiker.
Speaking on social media last month, he said: “The pressures of running a construction business, financial problems and debt had completely taken over. I’d reached a point where I genuinely couldn’t see a way out. Life is now good, and I don’t take that for granted.
“The mountains have played a massive part in getting me back to where I am today, so I’ve decided to set myself one hell of a challenge next summer.”
The challenge will run along 66 miles of mountains in Keswick, as James claims the traditional task is to complete the round within 24 hours.
