A team of three sixth form students from St Clement Danes in Chorleywood won a prestigious competition recently.

The Year 12 students won the East Region Final of the English Speaking Union Sixth Form Public Speaking Competition at Felsted School.

They won the contest against stiff competition from a number of schools.

The team consisted of chairperson Jonathan Driver, speaker Maxwell Duncan and questioner Florence McGrath.

Maxwell spoke on the topic of personal and social influences and Florence was commended personally by the judges for her exceptional performance as a questioner.

This is the second year of success for Maxwell and Florence who were both part of the team that was awarded runner-up in the National Final of the ESU PS competition last year.

Mr Chris Land, Head of English at the school, said: “The students performed superbly at the competition, drawing high praise from the distinguished panel of judges. They were great ambassadors for St Clement Danes School.”

The head judge was James Raven who is a Fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge and is Professor of Modern History at the University of Essex.
