Singer/songwriter Stevie releases his debut singles collection

A talented local performer is in for a huge year as he looks to focus his musical talents on singing/songwriting.

Stevie Hammond, a self-proclaimed ‘cheeky chappie’, has strong links to Abbots Langley through his performances at The Unicorn pub and local wedding gigs, garnering him a real following in the area.

Stevie, whose musical inspirations include Michael Jackson, James Brown and Michael Bublé, has released a singles collection of original music for the first time in his over 20-year singing career.

He admitted the process wasn’t as simple as expected, saying: “Roughly 15 years ago, I wrote my own album, but I didn’t think it was good enough. I produced it all, so I decided recently to reproduce the songs, go back to the studio and re-vocal it, then get them out on iTunes and Spotify and all the sites where people can listen to it.”

Stevie’s most popular track, Do You Like What You See, came out in September last year and is also his favourite.

He said: “It’s a good rock song, Laura Jayne helps out with the vocals as well, with a few ‘Oohs’ and ‘Ahhs’ in there.

“There’s a mix of different tracks, a couple of rock songs, some love songs. It’s great to have it out there now.”

The performer, who can be booked through his company, Ruff Diamonds, is still just as passionate about his live gigs as he is his recording career. He does live performances every weekend, either as a solo act or working with The Gilev ShowBand.

He said: “I’ve always felt the performing side of things is as important as the actual singing. I love getting people up, making them smile, I’m not one of these singers that just stands there and has no character about themselves; I get up on the tables, spin on the dance floor.

“I’m very interactive, I’ll get all the ladies up and have a bit of a fun night!”

His career has taken him across the world, performing in Cyprus, Spain and America, and alongside the likes of Alexandra Burke and even Frank Bruno and John Terry, the latter of whom he labelled a ‘surprisingly decent singer’.
