Students from West Lodge Primary School in Pinner took part in the South of England Sports and Athletics Finals at Inspire: Luton Sports Village on Wednesday, April 26.

A total of 30 students competed on the day and West Lodge came in second place out of 10 schools.

Year 6 teacher Ronan said: “It has become a real part of our culture at West Lodge. It reaches out to so many children and when they get selected, they become a real family. We had some former students in Year 10 who rushed back to us to help train the girls.

“It’s amazing to see students who are now in high school who want to get involved and see how we are doing. We also had three Year 7s come back to help out. It’s incredible to see.

“We have 30 kids in the team but also have some helpers come in to video it and do score taking. It creates opportunities for all children, whether it’s reporting, filming or being creative on the iPads.

“We have an army of helpers who take on their own responsibility. There are so many individual success stories. It’s helped build their confidence, resilience and life skills, and they have been using it in class to help them. It’s a pleasure to be involved and to help them.”

“It’s a pleasure to be involved and to help them. Two other teachers also helped: Liezl, our SEN teacher, and Joe, our Year 4 teacher.”
