SIGN UP: New sustainable group launches in Three Rivers

Published on: 21st August 2021   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

With climate change now accepted as an urgent issue for all, a small group of local residents have pledged to bring the Three Rivers community together and encourage collective action.

The Sustainable Three Rivers website – www.sustainablethreerivers.org – offers simple advice on how to reduce individual carbon footprints, whilst also providing links to local groups and businesses specialising in sustainable and environmental activities.

The website is designed to make it easy for local residents to link with local councillors and lobby both local and central government.

Rosi Jordon, one of the group’s core team along with Annabel Foley and sustainability consultant Gillian Lipton, said: “It’s clear to us that most people don’t know how much is going on in our area already, so we’ve created a website that flags up local environmental groups and projects.

Plus, we want to help people to make small lifestyle changes in order to live more sustainably.”

Michelle Cohen, local business owner, built the website and Iwona Sobon, eco virtual assistant, now manages it.

The group members liaise frequently with Elen Roberts, Climate Change, Sustainability and Recycling Officer at Three Rivers District Council.

“We love the idea of kick-starting community events and encouraging lots of Three Rivers residents to get involved. We’re particularly excited about the Great Big Green Week, from September 18 – 26 this year,” Jordon added.

Rosi continued: “This will be a chance for local people to get involved in the biggest event ever in the UK for climate and nature, joining with many others across the country to celebrate action on climate change.

“We’ll be promoting all local events on our website and doing everything we can to get local people of all ages involved.

“We want the government to see how strongly we all feel. We love our planet and it needs to be protected! We hope our PM will take this message to COP 26 which is being hosted by the UK in Glasgow in November 2021.”

Rosi, Annabel and Gillian are very keen for more local residents to join their group and bring fresh ideas and expertise, so please contact them at hello@sustainablethreerivers.org
