SHUTTING SUPPORT: Residents urged to comment in favour of Croxley road’s closure to traffic

Published on: 13th September 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Croxley councillors are encouraging people who support the continued closure of a local road to traffic to write to Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) showing their support.

In April, following a public campaign, HCC agreed to bar all vehicles other than agricultural vehicles, emergency services and cyclists from travelling between Sarratt Road to Waterdell House, and between 5 Little Green Lane and the junior school.

This was supposed to be for an 18-month trial period. Those in favour of the closure state that it has made a safe, countrified area for people to walk, cycle and ride, and has also reduced incidents of fly tipping.

However, HCC has now told supporters of the proposals that the bollards preventing vehicle traffic from travelling down the road may be removed if letters are not sent in by local residents expressing their approval of the closure.

County councillor Chris Lloyd said: “Back in 2021, former councillor Margaret Hofman presented our petition of over 1,500 signatures to HCC, calling on this lane that was used by vehicles to be closed off.

“It has taken ages, what with all the committee reports, surveys and consultations necessary to get to this stage. I hope that with residents’ support, the changes made will stay permanent.”

A spokesperson for HCC said: “This road closure was put in place as an 18-month trial and residents can let us know their thoughts about the impact of the closure at any point throughout that period. We would encourage residents to let us know what they think as this is one of the main things we will take into account when we come to make a decision about what to do at the end of the trial period.”
