Social media has seen a rise in residents sharing their dog walking stories in and around Chorleywood, Croxley and Rickmansworth.
One resident shared her story to social media after one of her small dogs was attacked walking along the River Chess in Croxley.
She said: “One of my dogs is nervous so I always put them on a lead when other dogs are around. This man approached with his dog off the lead.
“His dog ran over which frightened mine, causing the dog to attack mine, picking her up and shaking her, biting her multiple times.
“The owner then said that having my dogs on the lead made it my fault. He did ask if my dog was okay, but I was just shocked and traumatised.”
Her dog was kept at the vets overnight, where she received treatment for multiple puncture wounds, lost teeth, split gums and terrible bruising.
Another resident spoke to CHORLEYWOODnews and said: “I often walk my dog around Chorleywood, and encounter dogs off lead running freely.
“My dog is a nervous rescue and does not feel comfortable around other dogs, so when this happens, she gets scared and jumps around, which usually makes the other dog think she is playing.”
In the last few years, more incidents have taken place in and around Rickmansworth Aquadrome, involving dogs chasing and killing wildlife, chasing cyclists, and loose dogs running around.
Three Rivers District Council shared on their Facebook page: “The council currently allows dogs to be off the lead if kept under control.
“Should these incidents continue, the council will look to implement a variation to the existing Public Spaces Protection Order and require dogs to remain on a lead at all times throughout the park. Please ensure dogs under your charge are kept in control at all times.”
